Here are the rules:

1. Each entrant may submit only one photo. Even if you have five awesome, award-winning photos, you can only submit one. Similarly, you must be the original photographer or have the photographer’s permission to enter the photo in this contest. Your submission of the photo is your guarantee that you are the either the sole owner of the photo’s copyright or that you have obtained the right to enter the photo.

2. The entrant, his or her successors and assigns do hereby to release, hold harmless, defend and indemnify RRC, its successors, assigns, its officers, owners, employees or agents, from any and all costs, claims, losses, liabilities or damages arising from or in any way related to the use of the photo submitted, including all legal fees. The contest is void where prohibited.

3. All entries must be e-mailed to photos@redrivercamps.com prior to February 1, 2012. Please include your name/address and a short description of the photo in your entry. Descriptions will be visible during voting (see Rule 9), and a nice description will probably help your chances.

If you only have a hard copy of your photo and absolutely can’t find a scanner, you can send it to Red River Camps, P.O. Box 320, Portage, ME 04768, and we’ll scan it. (We’re also going to keep it to possibly frame and put in the dining room or in one of the cabins.) All entries sent via mail must be postmarked no later than January 17, 2012, to give us time to receive and scan them.

4. Photos must be of the Deboullie Township. If I can’t identify the location of the photo, I may ask you to verify where it was taken.

5. Entries may be from any time frame. Historic photos have the same chance of winning as photos taken this past summer. Entries may also depict any season.

6. If a person or people are in your photo, you must have their permission before entering it. To prove that you have their permission, they each have to sign a Model Release Form.

7. Pursuant to Rule #10, below, all subject matter is fair game. Hiking, fishing, hunting, scenery… Use your imagination.

8. The use of Photoshop is fine. A fair warning, though: while I think that the judicious use of Photoshop can help enhance a photo (enrich colors, delete errant branches, etc), I’ll be very surprised if we choose a heavily-Photoshopped photo as the winner. I’m just sayin’.

9. I’m not putting a size restriction on entries, especially if historic photos are submitted, but when it comes to final judging, we’ll probably look more favorably on higher-resolution photos.

10. The winner will be chosen in typical reality-show style. Entries will be posted on the website at www.redrivercamps.com/Photo_Contest_2012.html (linked prominently from the home page at www.redrivercamps.com) as they are received. Entries will be numbered, and entrants will not be identified until the finalists are chosen.

Beginning February 1, 2012, please e-mail me at photos@redrivercamps.com with the subject line “2012 Photo Contest Vote,” and give me the number of the photo you think should win. You can vote once per e-mail address that you have access to, but I’ll delete multiple entries received from the same address. Polling will close at 11:59PM on March 1, 2012. On or about March 2, 2012, I’ll post the five finalists, which will subsequently be judged by RRC staff.

We’ll announce the winner on Saturday, March 3, 2012.

11. This is a family-friendly contest; I don’t need to explain that further. Any photos that are not family-friendly will be disqualified at the sole discretion of RRC.

12. This is intended to be fun. I don’t expect to have to enforce any of the above rules, so please don’t make me. I just want to see the great photos that I know you guys have taken.

Prizes:

1. The Grand Prize winner will receive a gift certificate for two nights stay (Housekeeping or American Plan) for two people (at least one of which must be an adult), during the summer of 2012.

2. Runners-up will receive prizes as well; I just haven’t decided what those will be yet.

3. None of the prizes have cash value in the eyes of RRC. We will not give the winner an equivalent amount of cash; that’s not how it works. The winner can, however, sell or give the gift certificate to someone else if he or she so chooses.

4. Be aware that winning the photo contest doesn’t mean that you’ll instantly get the time slot or cabin that you want; the winner will still have to go through Red River’s standard reservation process. If you e-mail me on June 10 that you want to use the gift certificate on June 15, you’ll probably be out of luck.

5. The Grand Prize winner of the previous year's contest is not eligible to enter the current contest. Family members of the previous Grand Prize winner, however, are allowed to enter the current contest.

Things Entrants Agree To:

Entrants retain the photo copyright and keep all rights to their photos but agree to the following:

1. To allow RRC to use their photo in marketing if requested. This will most likely result in your photo being used on the website or newsletter, since we don’t do a lot of paper-based marketing. Credit will be given to the photographer.

2. To allow RRC to print their photo for display around Camp, if desired. Credit will be given to the photographer.

Other Details:

1. Any reference in these rules to “we” or “RRC” is a reference to Red River Camps staff. “I” refers to RRC owner Jen Brophy-Price, who has final say over pretty much everything relating to this contest. “You” refers to any potential contest entrant.

2. I’m going to retire photos@redrivercamps.com at the completion of the contest, at least until next year. Don’t add it to your address book. Anything sent there after March 5, 2012, will be eaten by the Internet.
