Directions to the Red River Camps

The Red River Camps are located 26 miles from Portage, Maine, where you will find our nearest paved road and neighbor.

Our GPS coordinates are: 68.842 degrees West longitude by 46.955 degrees North Latitude. For those of you who prefer driving directions, here are driving directions from Southern Maine:

Take Interstate 95 North to Exit 58 (Sherman), where you'll get on Route 11 North.

Take Route 11 North for 55 miles to Ashland.

Go through Ashland and stay on Route 11 to Portage (Route 11 will turn left midway through town.)

In Portage, turn left at Dean's Motel; Coffins' General Store will be on your right - now is the LAST time to stop if you've forgotten anything you may need for your stay.

Travel approximately 1 mile, and you'll see a signpost that lists several sporting camps, including Red River. Turn left here; you'll now be driving on paper company roads - logging trucks ALWAYS have the right-of-way.

After a few miles, you'll stop at the North Maine Woods gate. Visitors to the woods are required by the North Maine Woods Association to pay a fee, as these are privately maintained roads.

Two miles or so after the gate, turn right onto the Hewes Brook Road and follow the Red River Camps signs. Road conditions will vary, so a vehicle with some clearance is recommended.
